Official Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.
A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE THE ODDS OF WINNING.

The 2026 Golden Ticket Contest is administered by the Edmonton Christmas Market and is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations.

Participation in the Contest constitutes full and unconditional agreement with these Official Contest Rules and with the decisions of the Contest Sponsor, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest.

The Edmonton Oil Kings are the featured community partner and a prize contributor. Other organizations identified in these Rules may provide portions of the Prize but are not responsible for administering the Contest unless expressly stated.

CONTEST PERIOD

  • The Contest begins at 12:00:00 a.m. Mountain Time on August 1, 2026, and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. Mountain Time on August 31, 2026.
  • The Sponsor’s server or contest platform will be the official timekeeping device for the Contest.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The Contest is open to legal residents of Alberta who have reached the age of majority in Alberta at the time of entry.
  • Employees, officers, directors, representatives, contractors and agents of the Sponsor, Edmonton Oil Kings, campaign agencies, contest administrators and participating prize suppliers, as well as members of their immediate families and persons residing in the same household, are not eligible to enter.
  • For these Rules, “immediate family” includes a spouse, parent, legal guardian, sibling, child, grandparent and grandchild, whether related biologically, by marriage, adoption or common-law relationship.
  • The Sponsor may require proof of identity, age, residency and eligibility at any time.

HOW TO ENTER

  • During the Contest Period, eligible participants may access the hidden Golden Ticket entry page through one of the following:
  • A QR code available during a Golden Ticket or Grinch campaign appearance
  • A link released through an Edmonton Christmas Market social media account
  • A link released by an approved campaign partner
  • A surprise pop-up appearing on the Edmonton Christmas Market website
  • A lawfully shared link to the hidden entry page
  • After accessing the page, the entrant must complete and submit the official online entry form, including all required contact information, eligibility confirmations and acceptance of these Official Contest Rules.
  • There is a limit of one entry per person and per email address per calendar day during the Contest Period.
  • A person may not use more than one identity, email address, telephone number, account, automated system, bot, script or other method to exceed the entry limit.
  • Taking a photograph, publishing social media content, tagging another person, following a social media account or subscribing to marketing emails is not required to enter and will not increase an entrant’s odds of winning.
  • All entries must be received during the Contest Period.
  • Incomplete, inaccurate, late, misdirected, fraudulent, automated, duplicated or otherwise non-compliant entries may be disqualified at the Sponsor’s sole discretion.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY

  • No purchase, payment, donation, admission ticket or other consideration is required to enter or win.
  • Accessing the online entry form requires internet access. Entrants are responsible for any ordinary internet or mobile data charges imposed by their service provider.

There is one Grand Prize available to be won. The Grand Prize is expected to include the following components:

Holiday Light Experiences

  • Four Magic of Lights admissions or passes, with the exact ticket type to be confirmed
  • Four Zoominescence admissions

Partner Merchandise

  • Edmonton Christmas Market merchandise
  • Merchandise supplied by Suntory Global Spirits or a participating brand
  • Additional partner merchandise, if confirmed
  • The total approximate retail value of the Grand Prize is approximately $5,000 CAD.
  • The Sponsor must confirm the individual and total approximate retail values before the Contest opens.
  • If the actual value of any Prize component is less than its stated approximate retail value, the difference will not be awarded.

PRIZE CONDITIONS

The Prize must be accepted as awarded and is not transferable, assignable, refundable or redeemable for cash, except at the Sponsor’s sole discretion. The Sponsor may substitute a Prize component with another prize of equal or greater approximate value if the advertised component becomes unavailable for reasons beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control.

The winner and guests are responsible for:

  • Transportation to and from all Prize experiences
  • Parking
  • Gratuities
  • Meals and beverages not expressly included
  • Hotel incidentals
  • Personal expenses
  • Insurance
  • Any other expense not expressly described in these Rules
  • Tickets, certificates and admissions are subject to availability, operating schedules, event dates, venue rules, expiry dates, capacity restrictions and the terms imposed by the applicable prize supplier.
  • The winner and guests must be available on the dates designated by the applicable event or prize supplier. If the winner or a guest is unable to attend, no cash, replacement or compensation will be provided unless the Sponsor decides otherwise.
  • The hotel component is subject to availability, blackout dates, booking requirements and the terms of the issuing hotel or certificate.

Christmas Cash:

  • May be used only at participating vendors during the 2026 Edmonton Christmas Market
  • Has no cash value
  • Cannot be exchanged for cash
  • May not provide change
  • Must be used before its stated expiry date
  • Any age-restricted component will be provided only where lawful and only after the winner has supplied acceptable proof of age. Partner merchandise must be finalized and accurately described before launch.
  • The winner’s guests may be required to sign releases. Where a guest is under the age of majority, the guest’s parent or legal guardian must sign on the guest’s behalf.

WINNER SELECTION

  • On or about September 5, 2026, at approximately 12:00 p.m. Mountain Time, the Sponsor or its designated representative will conduct a random draw from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
  • One potential winner will be selected.
  • The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

  • The potential winner will be contacted using the email address or telephone number provided on the entry form.
  • The Sponsor will make a minimum of three reasonable attempts to contact the potential winner over a period of 72 hours.
  • To be declared the winner, the selected entrant must:
  • Respond within the time specified by the Sponsor
  • Provide proof of age, identity and Alberta residency if requested
  • Correctly answer, without assistance, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question
  • Sign and return the Sponsor’s Declaration, Eligibility Confirmation, Liability Release and Publicity Release
  • Agree to all Prize supplier terms
  • Otherwise comply with these Official Contest Rules
  • If the selected entrant:
  • Cannot be contacted
  • Fails to respond within the required period
  • Answers the skill-testing question incorrectly
  • Fails to provide required documentation
  • Declines the Prize
  • Is found to be ineligible
  • Violates these Rules
  • The selected entrant will be disqualified and the Sponsor may select an alternate entrant by random draw.

SKILL-TESTING QUESTION

  • Before being declared the winner, the selected entrant must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question without mechanical, electronic, written or personal assistance.
  • The question may be administered by telephone, email, video call or another method selected by the Sponsor.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

  • The verified winner is expected to be announced in September 2026.
  • By accepting the Prize, the winner agrees that the Sponsor and participating campaign partners may use the winner’s first name, last initial, city or town, voice, image, photograph, video and Prize-related statements for reasonable contest administration, winner announcement and promotional purposes without additional payment, where permitted by law.
  • Any broader content production or ongoing promotional usage should be documented in the winner release.

PERSONAL INFORMATION AND PRIVACY

  • Personal information collected through the Contest will be used to:
  • Administer the Contest
  • Verify eligibility
  • Contact selected entrants
  • Award and deliver the Prize
  • Prevent fraud and enforce the Rules
  • Meet legal, regulatory and recordkeeping requirements
  • The Sponsor may disclose necessary information to service providers, contest administrators and prize suppliers solely for these purposes.
  • Contest entry information will not be used to send promotional marketing unless the entrant separately provides express consent through the optional marketing consent checkbox.
  • Refusing marketing consent will not affect an entrant’s ability to enter or win.
  • Entrants may withdraw marketing consent at any time by using the unsubscribe mechanism in a promotional email or by contacting the Sponsor.
  • The Sponsor should publish or link to a privacy notice identifying:
  • The legal entity collecting the information
  • The purposes of collection
  • The organizations that may receive the information
  • The person who can answer privacy questions
  • Applicable retention and deletion practices

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • The Contest may be promoted through Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other social media services.
  • The Contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Meta, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or any other social media platform used to communicate the Contest.
  • Entrants release those platforms from responsibility relating to the Contest.
  • Entrants must comply with the terms of use applicable to any platform they use.
  • A social media post, share, follow, tag or photograph is not required to enter.

OPTIONAL USER-GENERATED CONTENT

  • Where an entrant voluntarily tags the Sponsor in a photograph or video, the Sponsor may request permission to repost the content.
  • Tagging the Sponsor does not automatically grant unrestricted commercial rights to the content.
  • The Sponsor should obtain written permission before using entrant content in paid advertising, long-term campaign materials or media outside ordinary social media reposting.
  • Entrants should not submit or share content that:
  • Violates another person’s privacy
  • Includes a child without parent or guardian permission
  • Infringes copyright, trademark or other rights
  • Is unsafe, unlawful, offensive or misleading
  • Depicts unauthorized entry into a location
  • Interferes with an event, business or member of the public

RELEASE AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

By entering, each entrant releases and holds harmless the Sponsor, Edmonton Oil Kings, participating campaign partners, prize suppliers, event venues, advertising and promotional agencies, social media platforms and each of their respective owners, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents from claims arising from:

  • Participation in the Contest
  • Acceptance, possession or use of the Prize
  • Attendance at a Prize experience
  • Technical failures
  • Lost, delayed or misdirected entries
  • Unauthorized human intervention
  • Printing, production or administrative errors
  • Injury, loss, damage or expense related to the Contest or Prize, except where liability cannot legally be excluded
  • Nothing in these Rules excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

TECHNICAL ISSUES

  • The Sponsor is not responsible for:
  • Website, form, QR code, internet or telecommunications failures
  • Interrupted or unavailable networks or servers
  • Incorrect or incomplete transmission of an entry
  • Entries lost because of spam filtering
  • Device incompatibility
  • Damage to an entrant’s device
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of entries
  • If the Contest cannot operate as intended because of technical failure, tampering, fraud, public health restrictions, event cancellation, force majeure or another circumstance beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control, the Sponsor may cancel, suspend, modify or terminate the Contest, subject to applicable law.

CONDUCT AND DISQUALIFICATION

  • The Sponsor may disqualify an entrant who:
  • Attempts to tamper with the entry process
  • Uses automated entry methods
  • Submits false information
  • Exceeds the entry limit
  • Harasses the performer, campaign staff, event staff or members of the public
  • Enters a restricted area
  • Interferes with an event or business
  • Acts dangerously or unlawfully
  • Violates these Rules
  • Participants must follow all venue instructions and must not chase, touch, obstruct or interfere with the Grinch performer.
  • No Contest activity requires an entrant to trespass, enter a restricted area, purchase admission or engage in unsafe behaviour.

ERRORS AND DISCREPANCIES

  • If campaign advertising, website copy, social content, signage or other material conflicts with these Official Contest Rules, these Rules will govern.
  • The Sponsor may correct administrative, typographical or production errors without materially changing the Contest.

GOVERNING LAW

  • The Contest and these Official Contest Rules are governed by the laws of Alberta and the applicable federal laws of Canada.
  • Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Alberta, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
